Biodiversity informatics allows the exploration of complex data to delineate patterns in ecological, biogeographic or taxonomic processes. The Biomar Lab is involved in a series of innovative projects that make an intense usage of biodiversity data to address complex questions related to climate change impact at high levels of biological organisation.
The Lab contributes to the following initiatives:
- Ocean Biogeographic Information System (iOBIS): co-Chair of the Steering Group, SCAR representation, Science Advisory Task Team (co-Lead with Pat Halpin, Duke University)
- Scientific Committee on Antarctic Research Expert Group on Antarctic Biodiversity Informatics (SCAR-EGABi): Chief Officer
- The Register of Antarctic Marine Species: Editor
- The Biogeographic Atlas of the Southern Ocean: Editor
- The Microbial Antarctic Resource System: co-Lead with Alison Murray, Desert Research Institute, and Anton Van de Putte, biodiversity.aq project
- Biodiversity Data Journal: Editor
